Before we start, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Theo Boots, for helping me update this walkthrough. Without his help this walkthrough would not be as helpful as when I originally created it.
Quick Plot
Ridge Racer 6's goal was to introduce gamers what the 7th Generation Console can do with the latest technology, HD and graphics. It was originally released as a launch title on the Xbox 360 (Europe got the game a month later) and it added new features, such as the World Xplorer Mode, New Race Tracks, Xbox Live, Achievements and much more.
The game has been received mostly positive feedback, but it has been criticized because of its difficulty, repetition, arcade simulation game-play and lack of online features.
General Hints & Tips
Every race consists of three laps unless you play online and change the default settings.
During World Xplorer there can be only one winner. Second and third means nothing as only first place will allow you to progress.
You may want to consider switching the announcer-audio off. To do this go to the options menu and switch the announcer-audio off. His constant nitrous-comments will drive anyone crazy. Especially during 14-contestant races when there is no moment when nitrous is not being used. Later on in the game you will unlock other announcers who are much more tolerable.
Cars are categorised by their types of drift:
- Mild drift-type cars are not suitable for long drifts.
- Standard drift-type cars are suitable for most situations.
- Dynamic drift-type cars need careful handling.
Ridge Racer 6 may require you to perform a "Manual Save" in order for your progress to be saved successfully. To do this simply go into the Options Menu and find the "Save to Location" icon. When prompted to save simply overwrite your previous data and make sure the date and time of the save is correct.
Use multiple saves and alternate between those after every race. That way you won't lose a lot of time, 1 race at most if something goes wrong. In addition I would suggest you save a spare copy of your data onto a Memory Unit or Cloud Storage.
Order Of Play
Order of play is somewhat of a hot pickle because there are different viewpoints and opinions on this. I think the best thing to do is write them down and let the reader make a decision.
Start With Boosting The Online Play
- Advantages: This will unlock some easy achievements for 50, 100 and 200 wins. Additionally this will unlock 23 cars which can be used in the other game modes. Having these additional cars gives you some more options while playing the single races or world Xplorer.
- Disadvantages: Unlimited nitrous is not yet unlocked. However to unlock unlimited nitrous you have to progress in world Xplorer to the advanced route and complete advanced races 4, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16. Keep in mind only the host has to have unlimited nitrous unlocked.
Start With Playing World Xplorer
- Advantages: Achievements unlock rather late except for the 360 achievement. This allows the player a fair amount of time and races to decide if he/she wants this game on their gamer-card.
- Disadvantages: World Xplorer has 5 odd achievements. Odd in the sense that they do not end in 5 or 0. I am referring to the messages from Reiko which are 7 Gamerscore each. Word Of Warning: The last message can only be unlocked in the Final course which definitely takes skill to unlock and successfully complete.
Second-Most Important Tip
The second-most important tip I can give you for this game. Get the timing of your boosting and drifting right.
Drifting in this game is a very good maneuver around tough corners and it also allows you to gain Nitrous. Drifting involves the use of the and the
. Initially you will only drift when you reach a corner in the track. Later on you will want to drift on the straights as well to gain some more boost. There are several ways to perform a successful drift:
- Reach a high enough speed and let go of the
Button (Accelerator) for a quick period of time. Then press the direction you want to turn on your
. Finally press the
Button again. Your car should perform a drift and with the
you even have some control over your drift-trajectory. The more you press down on the
Button the more turn power you will place in your car during the drift. Simply press your
Button if you need to slow down or end the drift.

- Some car-types only require the
to drift. The hovercraft (Pronzione), the UFO (Pac-Man) and to a lesser degree the Minicooper (Wild Gang).
- You will most likely bump into a wall while you are drifting. Just keep in mind "practice makes perfect". Once you have mastered drifting it should be a great aid for helping you complete the game.
Boosting is a great addition in the game. It allows you to temporary gain speed. You can have up to 3 boxes of Nitrous power which are shown at the bottom left of your screen. To earn Nitrous you need to successfully perform drifts. The longer the drift the more Nitrous you gain. To use Nitrous there are several options:
- Press
to use 1 box of nitrous. If you have 3 boxes Nitrous stored in your vehicle and you press the
Button you will be left you with 2 boxes of Nitrous.
- Press
to use 2 boxes of nitrous. If you have 3 boxes Nitrous stored in your vehicle and you press the
Button you will be left you with 1 box of Nitrous.
- Press
&
to use 3 boxes of nitrous. If you have any boxes Nitrous stored in your vehicle and you press the
&
you will be left you with 0 boxes of Nitrous.
Depending on how much Nitrous you use your car will have different colored flames shining from the back of your vehicle. Some cars like the "Monstrous" will even transform to different configurations depending on the amount of Nitrous used. Use Nitrous for catching up to your opponents or for a quick getaway. Remember the more drifts you perform the more Nitrous power you will get.
Timing is what will separate the men from the boys. Anyone can use boost and perform a drift and win the initial Basic Route races. However during the advanced routes simply drifting and boosting is not enough anymore. Drifting while Nitrous is active will not recharge the Nitrous-meter and therefore timing is required.
Time your boost in such a way that it will run out when you reach your next drift (corner). Drifting at the end of your boost, while at top speed will gain Nitrous extra quick. Doing it very well can even give you more Nitrous than the amount you started with (Ultimate Charge).
Most Important Tip
The most important tip I can give you for this game. Go to the menu after every race.
You will most likely need to replay some races and be presented with the button "Retry". If you decide to press that button you will lose everything you have done during the course of that race. Whilst this does not do anything bad to the game, it will prevent you from getting the "10,000 Mile Achievement" to unlock quicker. There is one disadvantage to returning to the main menu. The setup of your opponents cars will also change.
Achievements in this game will not unlock until you have selected the "Return to Menu" Button. When you have successfully accomplished an achievement do Not Quit to the Dashboard or switch off your Xbox 360. Doing so will result in you not unlocking the achievement and will require you to achieve again.
